| Q: Tell me about your studio
and your team.
| |
 |
|
Norrblick is a small studio in Sweden run by two persons,
myself a Fusion addict and one person in Maya/3ds max. Peaks
are handled by adding resources with the right competence for
a limited time.
|
 |
| Q: What artist/event/person
inspires you and your
team?
| |
 |
|
We're inspired by everything that surrounds us, and ranges
from the suggestive styles of Quentin Tarantino to the dark
forests here in the north of Sweden.
|
 |
| Q: How long has
Fusion been your software of
choice? | |
 |
I've used Fusion for three years, version 5 and now 6.
|
 |
| Q: What projects are you
working on at present?
| |
 |
Visualizations of a mountain resort, that is to be built,
is our main project right now.
|
 |
| Q: What shows have you
contributed to in the
past?
| |
 |
We target commercials and content productions where we act
alone or as part of a larger team, examples of commercials
include McDonalds, Apollo Travel Agency and Volvo
Cars.
|
| Q: Can you tell me your
favorite Fusion tool?
| |
 |
I have to point to the Color Gain tool. I use it all
the time. For me, it works much better, in a
non-destructive way, than the often used Color Corrector
tool.
|
| Q: What trends do you see
emerging in visual Effects? How do you see the role of
the VFX artist changing?
| |
 |
Stereoscopic 3D is of course a thing that changes
everything. The 3D tools available today in Fusion really
gives the artists full control, leaving complex and technical
animation only to the 3D department. We get all the fun, and
much more freedom to create.
|
| Q: Generally, visual effects
projects are complicated and involved. Tight deadlines
and large shot counts put a lot of pressure on the
artistic team. How does Fusion help you achieve your
deadlines?
| |
 |
The biggest selling point for us is the node based
compositing. Reuse, scripting and macros is a new way of
working that makes repetitive tasks so much
faster.
|
| Q: Do you make use of
Fusion's 3D environment and, if so,
how?
| |
 |
Yes, so far by importing meshes and tracking data as well
as cameras from 3D applications.
|
| Q: 10. How important is 3D
compositing to how you work?
| |
 |
Well, that's what we do. Merging passes and having the
freedom to do what you want down the chain is not only a time
saver, it's also a way to get better results than right out of
the 3D renderer.
|
| Q: What's coming up next for
your team?
| |
 |
Vacation! Winter, and skiing.
