eyeon is a proud sponsor of the indie film,
The Monster of Nix. This project is a collaboration between
post houses in Amsterdam, France, and Belgium. It is a short
film for children and families. Written and directed by Rosto, the project includes a mixture of different techniques
including live action, CG, 3D, and 2D shots. The film is
expected to premier in May 2011.
Working with Fusion
for the first time, the team has had to learn the software as
they progress in the project. Here is what Daan Spruijt,
Senior Compositor on Monster of Nix, had to say about using
eyeon's Fusion:
"With eyeon Fusion, and especially the 3D
environment, we are able to achieve the very complex and
detailed level of VFX compositing we were aiming for in this
production. Due to the extended toolset present in Fusion, we
didn't really need to switch to other software programs to get
the look we want.
In The Monster of Nix, we
are using the advanced 3D shading capabilities of Fusion 6
quite a lot since it saves time not needing to go back to
another 3D app to change small things in the render. We are
even shading whole 3D objects in Fusion and putting them
directly inside the composite. Fine tuning and blending
everything together is much more intuitive and faster than
rendering it in a separate program and bringing it back to
your composite app again.
Almost all the shots are
composited in the 3D environment of Fusion. This gave us the
freedom to move the camera around as we wish and also gave us
all the advantages of DOF, parallexing, re-lighting,
re-timing your 3D tracked camera move, and 3D camera
projections.
In the end, the particle system, which
can truly exist in 3D in the Fusion environment, puts the
final magic touch to the shot.
Furthermore, Fusion
allows us to do infinitely more complex composites than layer-based software and still keeps everything understandable and
organized. This is an advantage since The Monster of Nix is an
animated film with over 700 shots, all of which consist of
many elements and layers.
Eyeon Fusion is helping us
to keep track of all the material and shots. While scripts
take away a lot of handwork, the capability to produce your
own macros and re-use them in other shots is a real time-saver
in the end."
